TEACHING READING BY COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIC READING: AN ACTION RESEARCH

English language learners experienced difficulties in understanding readings English. This research aims to improve students’ reading comprehension by implementing Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) at second semester students of Department, STKIP Panca Sakti Bekasi. used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted two cycles. There are qualitative and quantitative data collected this research. The former were gained analyzing field note, observation sheet interview while the latter ones obtained from pre-test, post-test portfolio pre-cycle, cycle I II. result shows that mean score performance increases four dimensions not only on literal, interpretative, applicative but also critical understanding. finding indicates pre-cycle (68) 77 87 first cycles respectively. For interpretative understanding, average 61, increasing 69 80 cycle. 62, 64 84 Finally, increases, 59 65 85 Therefore, implementation CAR effectively improves performance.
